The Christ Church Early Childhood Centre is a pre-school for three- and four-year olds, which runs from September to June in a bright, cheerful, well-equipped room at Christ Church.

The CCECC has gained a reputation as the pre-eminent pre-school in the Elbow Park area. It attracts children from nearby communities such as Mount Royal, Rideau, Roxboro and Elboya.  Our children thus forge relationships which frequently carry over into other neighbourhood activities.

Who may attend?

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and is open to children of any neighbourhood or faith.  Priority is given to siblings of children currently or previously enrolled in the school.

Three year-olds attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with afternoon or morning classes of 14 children each. 

Four year-olds attend half days on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, in classes of 16 each. 

Applications for admission should be submitted early, as the pre-school often fills up well before the school year starts.

How does the CCECC  differ from other pre-schools?

Our curriculum closely follows the “Reggio Emilia” philosophy, which focuses on the natural curiosity of children, and is widely used in Alberta and elsewhere.  The Christ Church pre-school is much more than a daycare.  In the classroom there are learning centres which focus on science, literacy, numeracy, social skills and art.  Skilled teachers guide learning through play, using the senses.  Weekly music classes are also part of the curriculum. Regular physical exercise occurs with supervised play in the gym, and the park which is adjacent to the school.  The children are encouraged to observe and interact with their environment.  Attention is also paid to their spiritual development as well:  for example, grace is said before snacks. 

Who are the staff?

Our teachers are highly trained, experienced, and – above all – caring.  There are always two teachers in the room, and sometimes three.  Two of the staff have Master of Education degrees. Our music specialist plays several instruments and has the children singing, dancing and playing.  (In addition, two-year old children may attend special classes in music and dance offered for them on Tuesdays or Fridays.)
