Brandon Witwer
Assistant to the Rector

In August of 2017, Christ Church welcomed Brandon Witwer as the new Assistant to the Rector. Brandon studied theology at Wycliffe College in Toronto after a Master of Arts in the History of Church and Theology from the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium where he focussed on 20th century developments in church architecture. Prior to living and studying in Belgium Brandon studied in Calgary at Rocky Mountain College where he majored in Christian Spirituality.

Brandon and his wife Deanna became Anglicans while in Belgium, but before that were members of a Baptist church where Brandon served as a youth pastor and worked at summer camps. Growing up in Lacombe, Brandon attended the Roman Catholic Church, so it seems almost inevitable that he should land in the Anglican Church where he can have the best of both worlds.

Brandon's wanderings geographically and spiritually have given rise to a passion for Christian unity. He currently sits on an advisory commission of the World Council of Churches that works on ecumenical education and formation.

Now a Deacon, Brandon looks forward to being ordained into the priesthood in the new year, and presiding at his first Eucharists in the community.

Brandon, Deanna, and their two sons, Xander and Levi are excited to be a part of what Christ is doing in Elbow Park.
