Baptism - Welcome to the Body of Christ
Christ Church welcomes inquiries about baptism from anyone who seeks Christ in their life. We welcome people - from infant to adult - into the Body of Christ through the sacrament of baptism celebrated in the name of The Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All who desire baptism are welcome to find it here.

Great realities in life are hard to capture in human language - like the gift of life, of love, or the nature of God. Where words fail, the church uses the language of symbol and the gift of sacrament, or the "outward and visible signs of God's inward and spiritual grace".

Baptism is one of the two sacraments given to us by Jesus Christ. Baptism is described by many images, but its central meaning is welcome and belonging in the way of life in God in Christ.

Arranging for Baptism
Please contact the parish office to request more info about baptism at Christ Church and for possible dates. Baptism is offered in the context of Sunday morning worship, the community into which a candidate is welcomed. Its importance is highlighted by celebrating on important holy days and seasons of the Christian year. In the early church Adult baptism was traditionally celebrated at the Easter Vigil on Easter Eve, but we welcome adult candidates at any time of year.

Keeping Baptismal Vows
Baptism is a beginning, not a destination. In Baptism, gifts of the Holy Spirit are celebrated that help us, in community together, to live the vows we make. At every baptism, the entire community renews their vows, including:

Will you continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship,
in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?
With God's help, I will.
Will you persevere in resisting evil and, whenever you fall into sin,
repent and return to the Lord?
With God's help, I will.
Will you proclaim, by word and example, the good news of God in Christ?
With God's help, I will.
Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbour as yourself?
With God's help, I will.
Will you strive for justice and peace among all people,
and respect the dignity of every human being?
With God's help, I will.
Will you strive to safeguard the integrity of God's creation,
and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth?
With God's help, I will.
